Update on how the Institute of Nuclear Physics deals with the coronavirus

Message from the Director Prof. Dr. Concettina Sfienti  (16. March, 8:12AM)

Dear colleagues,

As you have heard from the media and from the university administration, the situation regarding the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is reaching a difficult stage.

For this reason, in addition to the rules which I communicated on 6 March, the following new measures will be implemented from TODAY and until 20 April:

  • All forms of joint celebrations and/or meals in rooms of the institute are prohibited. This applies especially to celebrations on the occasion of doctoral examinations, BSc. or MSc. degrees.
  • All form of meeting, workshop or conferences with more than 25 participants at the Institute are prohibited.
  • All domestic and international business trips will be prohibited. In addition, authorisations already granted for travel to risk areas that have not yet begun will be revoked. Please contact the organisers of the event you are supposed to attend to clarify whether participation via video conference is possible.
  • Staff members who have recently been to risk areas (see https://www.rki.de/DE/Content/InfAZ/N/Neuartiges_Coronavirus/Risikogebiete.html) or have had contact with persons to whom this applies should definitely not come to the Institute for two weeks. This applies to JGU employees and guests.
  • The same applies to those of us who have had contact in the last three weeks with a person who has symptoms that could indicate a corona infection and has not yet had a negative medical test result.
  • Social distancing measures do indeed have a proven effect. Therefore, please keep a distance of at least 1.5 m from your colleagues during joint activities.

In general, any of us with signs of discomfort or cold symptoms should stay home and seek medical advice.

Please clarify with your chief to what extent you could make use of the home office option: This applies in particular to all employees who belong to a risk group due to a previous illness or general immune deficiency (the same applies to employees who are in close contact with people who belong to a risk group)

Kindest Regards
Concettina Sfienti
