Licensing issues with Office 2010

Currently many users are experiencing licensing issues related to Office 2010.

This is due to the fact that the ZDV has outsourced the KMS servers. But you can change the server with a few cmd commands. Before you execute these commands, you must execute the command line as administrator. If you are using the 32-bit version of Office 2010 on a 64-bit operating system, you must enter "cd \Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14" for the following. Otherwise, you can simply run the following commands:

  • cd \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
  • cscript ospp.vbs /sethst:kms-03.zdv.uni-mainz.de
  • cscript ospp.vbs /act

That should solve the problem.

We would like to take this opportunity to point out that Microsoft will discontinue support for Office 2010 on October 13, 2020. This means that there will be no future security updates coming.

We therefore recommend an upgrade to Office 2016. The ZDV offers the installation free of charge. If you wish, we can help you with the installation and, if necessary, handle it for you.
