New at KPH – A brief overview

Here you can find a summary of the services provided by the IT group of the Institute of Nuclear Physics.

IT representatives of the working groups/collaborations

There should be IT representatives in every working group or collaboration - if in doubt, ask your supervisor about this. Questions about IT should always be discussed in the collaboration first.

Further sources of information

ZDV account / university account

You can manage several settings yourself. Here you will find a short overview.

KPH-Account

WLAN

At the Institute of Nuclear Physics the WLAN is provided by the ZDV. You can use the networks "eduroam" and "Uni-Mainz".  How to connect is described on this website of the ZDV.

LAN

Not all network sockets in the Institute's offices are actively connected. The use of a non-active network socket must be requested from the IT department. Each device is registered with its MAC address and then assigned an IP address via DHCP. Details can be found in the article on Internet and network access within the Institute.

IntraKey (electronic key)

Your personal key will be requested by your supervisor during the regular registration procedure and will be issued to you by the Radiation Safety Department once the required work and radiation safety briefings have been completed.

Print system

There is a print server that can be used to control all printers.

SSH / VPN

Instructions on how to create an SSH key can be found here.
How to create an SSH tunnel to the KPH infrastructure is described here.

Services of the IT Group

The services of the IT department can be found here.

Suport - Ticket System

Send an e-mail with your request to kph-it@uni-mainz.de. A ticket will automatically be created with the IT department and we will take care of it. You can also enter all relevant information about an order or printer support via a web interface.

Orders

The IT group will be happy to advise you on orders for IT such as servers, computers and network technology. Standard computers, especially if framework agreements exist between JGU and the suppliers, can and should be ordered directly via FIN to relieve the IT group. Here you will find further information on the ordering process.
